Methcathinone (Ephedrone) (α-methylamino-propiophenone or ephedrone) (sometimes called “cat” or “jeff” or “catnip” or “M-Cat” or “intash” ) is a monoamine alkaloid and psychoactive stimulant, a substituted cathinone. It is used as a recreational drug due to its potent stimulant and euphoric effects and is considered to be addictive, with both physical and psychological withdrawal occurring if its use is discontinued after prolonged or high-dosage administration. Methcathinone (Ephedrone) is usually snorted, but can be smoked, injected, or taken orally.

Public health advisories For Methcathinone (Ephedrone):

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued public health advisories related to this product. Among these, in July 2005, the FDA issued a Public Health Advisory,which advised that “deaths and overdoses have occurred in patients using both
the brand name and the generic product.” In December 2007, as part of this continuing investigation, the FDA issued a second Public Health Advisory stating, “The FDA has continued to receive reports of deaths and life-threatening side effects in patients who use this product patch. The reports indicate that doctors have inappropriately prescribed this
product patch.In addition, the reports indicate that patients are continuing to incorrectly use this product patch.
